Web Review: Calm

Image
The past three posts were about, in my opinion, poorly designed websites. It's time for a little positivity, and I came across a website called Calm .  Besides the idea of the website, the design is beyond impressive. Upon visiting the homepage, you're greeted with an image of a lake and the sounds of nature. The page is fluid and built with JavaScript. It's neat and organized. I even signed up for the seven-day trial.  Final Score: 10/10

Web Review: Canvas/Blackboard

Image
Blackboard and Canvas are two websites that provide educational courses online through a student's school. Both sites have mobile applications. At times, I have issues with the mobile apps. So, I tend to use my mobile browser to check my online classes. The lack of responsiveness of the two sites makes it difficult to read my notifications. Overall, the design and the theme is impressive. Canvas is more fluid compared to Blackboard, but I believe both sites could use an upgrade.

Web Review: Yale University School of Art

Image
I had to do some research on poorly designed websites, and I came across  Yale University School of Art . This website is for the faculty members and students of the School of Art.  Not responsive Repetitive background Font size & color  From my understanding, the page was built and maintained by graduate students and faculty. Also, the website was developed using Ruby on Rails.  However, I do commend them for creating this site from scratch. If they were to change some details like the responsiveness and background, this site would be satisfactory. Final score: 4/10

Website Review: Rate My Professor

Image
In my last blog post, I talked about a website which, in my opinion, is a great website. Now, let's talk about a bad website. This page isn't the worst; however, it is far from the best.  Rate My Professor  is a website that students can post their reviews of classes, professors, and schools. Screen capture of Rate My Professor Too many ads Pop-ups Cluttered and unorganized Organization, limited ads, and pop-ups are some important factors of web design. With Rate My Professor, all of these qualities are not there. Some classes are duplicates and could make a search for finding the right professor difficult. However, I like the theme and the premise of this site. Final score: 7/10

Website Review: W3Schools

Image
Everyone has a favorite website they enjoy visiting. From the simple user interface to aesthetic of the design, these are the important influences of a great website. One example of an effective website is W3Schools.    Beautiful, uncomplicated design Limited advertisements Simple categories Extremely organized No pop-up W3Schools has to show their visitors that their site should be the top preference for anyone seeking assistance in web development. If visitors follow the examples posted on W3Schools, they could achieve a perfect website.

'Politricans'

Honestly, I don't know much about what's going on with the presidential election. But I feel the smear-campaigns are very unnecessary. Politicians to me are 'politricans'. They just want to trick you with their lies and gossip. It's so stupid. If they could only just be honest, everything would be easier. But then again, this is America, the land of the 'free'.

No PBS????

Image
Mitt Romney stated that he would cancel public broadcasting funding if he became president. As a parent who relies on PBS for my child and my sansity, IT CANNOT GO! My daughter loves Sesame Street, as well as the other shows on PBS. There are other sources that he can take away, but this is our children's future.
